WT HENLEY'S (LATER AIE) AIR RAID TUNNELS
SUMMARY-
WT Henley was a company recognisable for their manufacture of electrical components and cable. The company had a site build between Gravesend and Northfleet during 1939, to serve a purpose in World War Two. The business had great success during the war and played an important part in Operation Pluto. When the company had its new site built it also had tunnels built into the cliff face to provide shelter (in the event of an air raid) for their employees.

CONSTRUCTION-

The tunnel system was dug into the cliff and lined with prefabricated concrete (which had a lovely white washed look) and it also had wooden flooring through the majority of the system. Inside the tunnels would of been first aid areas, which can be seen from the original signage, as well as many toilets, which would of been form of buckets.
