History
Brinksway deep level shelter is one of three in Stockport. They were dug into red sandstone which the town centre stands on.
Work started on the shelters in 1938 and the first set of shelters opened in October of 1939.
The tunnels were 7ft wide and 7ft high and had electric lighting and wooden bench seating.
As the threat of bombing ceased in 1943 it was decided the tunnels weren’t needed to be open every night.
At the end of the war the tunnels were sealed.

We had tried to find the entry point to these tunnels on multiple occasions with no joy. After months of research and using our local knowledge of Stockport, we found our way in. We spent a good couple of hours exploring down here, it’s difficult to keep track of where you have and haven’t been! So no doubt missed parts!

Barring vandalism, It would appear that you're the last to be in Brinks' for a while.

A shiny new section of fencing and steel plate have been installed.

Used to love it when the KP crisps was in Cheadle Heath back in late 70's early 80s, workers used to chuck us bags of crisps over the fence. Happy memories

Visited here today, now the mill has been demolished I found what I thought was an access point but it was 12” deep with water and that was about 12feet long where at the end looks like you can get through , think this was the old way in through Springfield mill?
