Clayton Hospital was founded in 1854; an amalgamation of Wakefield General Dispensary (1787) and the Wakefield House of Recovery (1826). In 1863 Mayor Clayton financed an expansion and the institution was re-named 'The Clayton Hospital and Wakefield General Dispensary'. The site moved from Dispensary Yard to the present site in 1876 and the new building was opened in 1879.By 1948 the name was changed to Clayton Hospital and it had a capacity of 200 beds. The hospital was closed in 2012 by The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.
The above is a basic rundown of the history of this hospital, however I found some slightly more comical bits online...
Here is a review of the services provided here written by an unhappy member of the public in 2009...
And it seems the secca had some fun times after ghostie hunters stormed the gates after closure.
Anyway... a little while ago I had a little look at whats left of the hospital, as other reports have suggested it is a reet big mess after being trashed and wrecked and the exterior misleads slightly. Saying that I really enjoyed myself and it was nice to mooch about another hospital.
Here is a postcard showing what the place looked like in 1906
And now...
Thanks for looking.

Wasn't at all impressed when attending this hospital for a recent appointment. Arrived at the hospital 10 mins before my appointment to which i was told to take a seat, 20 mins later i was called to take a seat in another waiting room. 90 mins later after constantly badgering the nurses i got to see a different doctor to the one i was referred to. I understand that appointments run over but an hour and 40 mins in total is disgraceful!
