J S Jonas Ltd Premises
Bradford, England
January 2020

-

HISTORY
Opened in 1876 originally serving as a Victorian Sunday School, this Grade II listed building is located on the corner of Burnett Street and Upper Park Gate, part of the precinct known as 'Little Germany' in the centre of Bradford.
The premises is currently occupied by J S Jonas Ltd, who once specialised in the wholesale of wood, construction materials and sanitary equipment as well as the installation, maintenance, distribution and sale & hire of tools, engineering equipment and machinery components. However, the company hasn't traded or been active since 1994 and was liquidated in 1999. It was founded on 14th January 1986 (34 years ago) by Jeffrey and Hazel Gelder, who are now both 90 years of age. It appears they still own the decaying building, but have no desire or intention of restoring it, and the city of Bradford will have to wait until their deaths before anything can be done to bring life back to this once grand sunday school.

EXPLORE
J S Jonas Ltd Premises has been referred to as 'Deathtrap Mill' some explorers, and that is a very accurate descriptor for this shockingly dangerous, unstable wreck of a building. An explore where I thought I may have difficulties gaining access were soon put to rest when I noticed the front door was literally wide open. Like I've said on a previous post, they don't actually care what you do in Bradford.
The inside is cluttered with old equipment, machinery, furniture, signage and 3 litre White Ace bottles. Everything is water damaged and rusty. The grounds floors are very unstable, while the upper floors are practically non-existent. And still, there are signs of recent occupation of this building by the smackhead community. Unbelievable.
