Like he said, we passed this place on the way to Anzio Barracks, and stopped to investigate further afterwards. There appeared to be no way in except for maybe a small gap in a door. However, some bloke was having his dinner in a car right there, so we held back until he went back to work. I looked at the gap in the door, to find a concrete block wall. However, a few metres along was a double door open, so we legged it in, and made our way to the top, hoping to find a tower in the traditional sense.
What we found was a hatch in the roof that led to an open water tank, complete with stopcock, and a flagpole with last remnants of a flag.
Inside, the top floors were great. Bathed in sunlight, they were really nice. There were plenty of original features like the pulley drive systems, and backs of printing machinery still connected by pulleys to the drive shafts.
The chippies and storeman had taken over the lower levels.
Thanks saul for a great explore.
