Willenhall is a small industrial town in the Black Country, famous for metal bashing, Iron founding and most importantly lock making. The abundance of Iron ore, coal and limestone in the area made it one of the centers for Iron founding in the whole of the UK at one point. There would have been hundreds, if not thousands of these little firms churning out everything from train wheels to door knockers in the first half of the 20th C. Today a few still remain but the majority have disappeared.
Little places like this were once bread and butter exploring to me. I must say over the past 5 years they are getting tougher to find, but it just shows they are still out there if you put enough leg work in to looking for them.
The firm was a pretty standard small scale foundry, making everything from wood burners to junction boxes. We seem to be a little late really as there were signs of demolition and the casting shop was completely empty. The pattern stores and a very dated medical room however remain derelict and pretty untouched by anyone other than the elements.
