I spotted this place after another explore nearby and just had to go back for a closer look.

After a failed attempt on another site, we had this as our plan B. And it didn't disappoint.

What looked like a big wall by the lake was much more.

It was a weaving shed and boiler room built around 1850 but I have no idea when it closed, looking at it - many years ago. Google earth back tracked to 2000 shows it derelict even then! Sections of it are completely demolished and the build as a whole could only be described as a death trap; the floors and stairs were very unstable so absolute caution and decent lighting was in order.

It was full of surprises, tucked away entrances, tunnels, a large loading bay, a bridge and a chimney - which I spotted originally and made me decide to return.

There were plans to convert it into flats and then build more houses on the vacant land behind it. The locals opposed it and got support of their disgust, claiming that it just would fit in with the aesthetic of the local area. And they are probably right.

We spent a few hours here and it was a perfect saturday, not as good as Plan A but that is ongoing.

Enjoy!
