Then it's time again for a visit down in the Swedish bedrock.... :p:

During the "Cold War" was all municipalities in Sweden required by law to establish a protected command center for Civil Defence, a majority of the municipalities followed the law and built command centers protected by mountains, or in the form of concrete bunkers with equal protection .

Many of these facilities were built in the 50s and a large part of these modernized since the 70's or 80 's with a new design and was given added protection against ABC weapons and in some cases, protection against electromagnetic pulse, EMP , which damages electronic equipment.

The complex in these images are outside a city on Swedish west coast. The plant was probably built in the early 1970s, and modernized since the early 1990s, about the time the "cold war" was considered over.

It is a relatively large facility. Basic protection in the form of mountains and input via a shock wave tunnel, then several heavy steel doors. Incoming air is filtered. There are spaces for ABC decontamination, but the facility has no comprehensive protection against EMP, only minor parts that radio room have EMP protection. The mountain is an approximately 1,200 sq. m (?) Large two-story building, the building inside the mountain is cast in concrete.

Backup power is available in the form of a Scania Vabis diesel generator set for a limited time would supply the plant with emergency power for lighting and communication equipment. On the upper floor there are orders central, communication facilities, customer service and more. On the lower floor there is a kitchen and dining room, sleeping and shower areas divided in section for men and women respectively. On the lower deck are also technical areas for backup power, ventilation, cooling and a small workshop.

The plant is in a very good condition. It has not been used (exercises) in many years. But who knows, it feels as Russia becomes more and more aggressive, Sweden may perhaps try to save the old facilities still remain and modernize them, so that the work of civil defense may be conducted on the day Russians, once again, consider that the Baltic Sea should be a domestic lake in Russia... Cold War 2.0
