Report - Winchester Old sewage/waterworks (Sept 2019)

Good day all,

Finally have got round to posting my reports so here goes-

This visit was on a glorious sunny Sept 2019 day so perfect for a little stroll around the old Southern water sewage treatment works in Winchester!

This site was closed down and a new installation was set up nearby approx 20 years ago.

Sounds strange for a sewage treatment place but I have fond memories here as my dad use to work here back in the day and I remember visiting here many times as a teenager when he was on call and had to dash here on an emergency and I always use to go with him as company and an extra body!

As you will see from the pictures this place is heavily overgrown in places and if anyone else goes to visit please stick to the paths, this site still includes concrete overflow tanks with deep water in and large outdoor overflow pits that look just overgrown on top but have very deep water underneath,

Any questions please ask away, This is my first post on here so any constructive feed back would be grately appreciated, I took bucket loads of pictures but will narrow down to the best and most relevant ones!

Keep Exploring and have fun!

Hey man, great post it looks really cool! I'm heading up to Winchester this weekend and would love to visit this place, whereabouts is it? Also, where do you think would be a good place to park and then walk there? Cheers!!

Great photos, but fook getting stuck in those pits! Love the old brickwork, and the last picture of the storage shed. On the right of that last pic of the shed, there is a section/shed with a GRP/steel door. What does the warning sign say? It could be a dry or wet well, or perhaps they had some valuable equipment stored in there, but maybe not now if it is all closed down. Even if the site itself is not active, because of the newer works, that may still be an active pumping station or storage of materials.

Hi there, I believe this site is now owned and used by a mobile telecommunications company as it houses a big antenna now, sign on the closed door reads- Caution Radio Transmitters operating Please obey all signs

Ah yes, I think other disused sewage sites have been used for mobile masts, presumably because they are already wired up to the grid and have the huts already in situ for installing electrical gear, but not sure. Thanks for replying and letting me know.

I live nearby and didn't know of this either, only the one in Otterbourne - Haven't had any luck finding this one yet, but it can wait until the new year.

Bugger taking a swim in one of those overflow things though!
