Once upon a time during the year 1965, a big factory was built, at that time one of the largest buildings by footprint in the world. People moved from all across the country to work in this factory, but they needed a place to stay so Mālkalne was built - the first neighbourhood of what would become the city of Ogre. But these people were getting kinda chilly during the cold nights, so a heating plant needed to be built so they built one right next to the factory itself.

By time the heating plant became old and outdated, so a more modern, fresh and more technologically advanced heating plant was built and this one had no use anymore, so somewhere around 2005 the heating plant was abandoned and left to decay.

I also made a video on this place which you can watch here. I will do a part 2 soon.

Old rails that lead to the plant - our way into the territory

Next to the plant there's also a train fuel station

894072

The chimney sticks out like a sore thumb

894073

And finally, after a long walk - we are at the plant

894089

Once inside, we are greeted with a soviet water vending machine

894075

The plant is pretty massive

One of the many technical rooms inside of the factory, there were also many workshops

894078

Some sort of big machine, don't know what it is or what it does

894079

Most interesting room in the plant, it's filled with furniture, different boxes, signs and most importantly - documents.

Latest entry is from the beggining of 2005

The roof with a view of the massive factory I talked about, you can see the hospital from my last post in the distance as well - can you spot it?

894094

From the roof, we spotted this tower and decided to climb it, it was also abandoned

894092

View from the tower

View of the heating plant from the tower - the chimney is around 200 meters high!

View from the same tower in the night

Hope you enjoyed!

More than likely a boiler ...

" Some sort of big machine, don't know what it is or what it does "

Insides of a coal fired boiler - Steam drum access (Top Left, this pic) is what's visible on the pic in the OP .
