Fantastic that mate!

Brilliant photo's, I had a look at this place when it first closed, was in Scarborough for the air show anyway... Was lurking about for a while before deciding it was a no go... Proved me wrong!

The council decided to close the theatre late last year following a report published in June 2013, which said the site was "beyond the point" of refurbishment. The final curtain came down on the building in January 2014.

Which bit? but tend to agree with Speeds comments in Post 11 that it needs to be un-modified if anything like the City Varieties Music Hall in Leeds which was granted Heritage Lottery funds to help with major refurbishment and restoration but NOT modernisation

It's a disgrace to remove a place like this from existence. These local councils will not be happy until their whole towns are soulless, low maintenance lego buildings.

Anyone know if they stuck to the 19th Jan demo date or is it still standing as it was?

Unfortunately unless the Save The Futurist group are successful it will be demolished :/

The "redevelopment" plans have been shown here : http://www.thescarboroughnews.co.uk...ingo-land-behind-plans-for-futurist-1-6907763

Strangely enough (but obviously not connected in any way shape or form!!) two £25K donations were made to the Conservative Party. One from Flamingo Land and the other from a Gordon Gibb (the owner of Flamingo Land). ( http://nyenquirer.uk/bidder-b-donates-50k-conservatives/ )
But this isn't the place for a political rant so I'll stop!

The Chuckle brothers show that toured was about an old theatre that the council wanted to sell as car parking, and the shortsighted devils in Scarborough actually did it! Seriously though, it's too big, and too expensive to staff and operate. One of the countries biggest production companies is based in scarborough, and they also buy theatres and run them - and they didn't even want it when it's on the door step. It's not the theatre that makes it unviable, it's the location and the available audience, and they just didn't support it. Happening all over the country. I's also not architecturally that nice either - and has a difficult stage area.
