Report - Denbigh Asylum, Wales - July 2013

Sadly I didn't see the living legend that is Elwyn but I did hear someone walking around outside with what sounded like a rather large dog going from the barking.

I had one job on for the day that was in Ruthin and as the only other thing that is nearby is Pool Park and I was in there a month or so ago I decided to see how bad things had got at Denbigh in the last couple of years

I was surprised at how fucked it is, the demo/restoration work has trashed the place

The North Wales Lunatic Asylum was the first psychiatric institution built in Wales; construction began in 1844 and completed in 1848 in the town of Denbigh. The U-shaped Tudorbethain style hospital was built due to the spreading word of mistreatment of Welsh people in English asylums; The North Wales Hospital would be a haven for welsh speaking residents to seek treatment without prejudice or a language barrier.
