Visited with Landie earlier this month with his girfriend.
Made my way up here to join Landie for a couple of days on his epic Wales trip (you might get the image), and to do this of course. Seriously, I'm not happy with what's happened to this recently. Demolition of corridors aside, the bastard owners (since when Landie first went) have stripped nearly EVERY bit of lead from the roofs in order to presumably decrease the value of the buildings which means that Admin is rapidly going downhill, not to mention the wards! Still they look beautiful in their decay - a paradox if you ask me. Thankfully the chapel has been left untouched (and locked too). Not only that, many of the upper floors are now inaccessible due to them nailing and screwing the doors shut, boarding windows and even bricking up some of the corridors! No wonder they've put up signs saying it's being sealed and that you need to get out in order to avoid being trapped! Ha!
We did it over 2 days - Thursday afternoon/evening and Friday evening but still didn't see it all. Had some rather frightening moments in the evening when I'd seen 2 bats flying around in front of me in the corridors! Might do a return trip to finish off the wards (not that they'll be accessible though), I don't know. Anyway we did: Nurses Residence, Mortuary (locked - poked camera through board)/Chapel of Rest (had a McFly poster in there!), Admin, Main Hall and a few wards.
Here's the pics:
Nurses Residence (I think)
Admin, Wards and Workshop
Chapel, Mortuary and Chapel of Rest
Sadly there was no way into the mortuary and no connection between that and the chapel of rest but neither were really that interesting anyway
Where's the slab?
All in all, considering how much of a success this trip was it probably only makes it fair that Pyestock on Saturday was an epic fail!
Thanks for looking,
TBM
